Howard, Zellweger Collaborate for ASEE-SE Best Conference Paper

Dr. Anna Howard, Teaching Associate Professor in MAE and Merranie Zellweger, DELTA Associate Director for Academic Technology Innovation, were announced as the ASEE-SE Best Conference Paper awardees for 2018. Their collaborated submission, titled “Assessing Teamwork in Large Classes,” addresses the importance of using teamwork in classrooms, and how important this is for students learning new material. The authors present the clicker-based peer evaluation used in Howard’s Statics course (MAE 206) as a technique to capture data rating every student at least once a week on their participation and preparation. Also included in the paper is the Teaching Teamwork material used in the course’s final team project.

Next, the paper will compete for the Best of Zone 2. If the paper is selected as the Best of Zone 2, Howard and Zellweger will then be considered at the National Conference for Best of Zones, and will present at the National Conference. The full paper can be read here.
