MAE Student selected COE Faculty Senior Scholar

A rising senior at the NC State Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering has been selected as the 2023-2024 College of Engineering Faculty Senior Scholar.

Zoe Marazita was selected from a pool of 10 nominees to receive the prestigious scholarship by the COE Scholarship Committee, which is comprised of representatives from each department in the College of Engineering.

According to the scholarship’s description, the Faculty Senior Scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time student who exemplifies academic excellence, intellectual breadth and depth of character, and is projected to graduate in the following academic year

Each engineering department nominates one outstanding rising senior to be their departmental faculty senior scholar, and then the COE Scholarship Committee spends a day interviewing all of the student nominees, and then selects one to be the College-level faculty senior scholar.

Marazita, a mechanical engineering major, is an outstanding student with a particular interest in product design and sustainability. She is also an MAE Ambassador

She completed an internship last summer at Apple in Silicon Valley as a product design engineer and she studied abroad last semester at Lund University in Sweden.

She is very active in STEM outreach programs and serves as an executive member for Girls Engineering Change club where she helps to organize engineering outreach programs. This coming summer, she will teach STEM courses to children in Rwanda through the engineering study abroad program.

Outside of engineering, Marazita is interested in the arts and the outdoors, spending her free time playing the flute, hiking and camping.

According to the MAE Director of Undergraduate Advising Cheryl Tran, this year’s group of COE Faculty Senior Scholar nominees was one of the best the committee has seen in years, and Marazita’s charisma and enthusiasm made her stand out among her fellow incredible nominees.

“The pool of 10 nominees from all engineering departments was excellent,” Tran said. “To be selected as the winner is a real testament to your interview skills, hard work, and preparation.”

Marazita will be recognized as the 2023-2024 COE Faculty Senior Scholar at the college-wide Faculty Meeting in the fall 2023 semester.
