Yuan wins SPIE NDE Lifetime Achievement Award

Samuel P. Langley Distinguished Professor Fuh-Gwo Yuan has been selected as the winner of the 2023 Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE) Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) Lifetime Achievement Award.

The award recognizes senior researchers who have made significant contributions to the field of Nondestructive Evaluation. The award decision is based on the extent of the researcher’s impact on the NDE community and participation in the SPIE symposium.

To qualify for nomination, one must have a minimum of 25 years experience after a first degree in science or engineering, or more than 20 years experience after a PhD.

Once nominated, one must pass a stringent 30-week selection process coordinated by the award committee, which is comprised of the SPIE NDE Symposium co-chairs, along with the five past winners of the award and all current NDE Conference Chairs and Co-chairs. During this process, the award committee selects only one nominee a year to receive this prestigious award.

Dr. Yuan will receive an SPIE certificate at the 2023 SPIE Smart Structures + Nondestructive Evaluation meeting, and he will be invited to give a plenary talk at the 2024 SPIE meeting.
