MAE raises more than $76k on Day of Giving

MAE, alongside the incredible departments in the College of Engineering and other Colleges across the University, achieved great things on NC State’s Day of Giving 2022.

Over the course of 24 hours, we saw students, parents, staff, faculty, alumni and more come together to show their love for MAE. With their help, our department was able to raise over $76,000 for this years Day of Giving. By the end of the day, we had the second highest total funds raised between the College of Engineering departments, just behind the Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering at more than $81,000.

The College of Engineering performed incredibly as well, raising more than $1.5 million from nearly 1,500 total gifts. The college earned the fifth highest amount of total funds raised and the third most amount of gifts.

NC State raised a total of $23,060,336 across 14,533 gifts for this years Day of Giving, and we have our amazing Wolfpack Family to thank for it.

Among our many incredible donors was Dr. Basil Hassan, who made a significant contribution to the MAE Aerospace Projects fund to support student design competitions like the AIAA Design, Build, Fly Team; the High Powered Rocketry Team; and participation in AIAA Student Conferences. Dr. Hassan is the Director and Deputy Chief Research Officer of Sandia National Laboratories and the President of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). He is an ’88 MAE alumni who also serves on the NCSE Foundation Board of Directors as well as the MAE Advisory Board.

Dr. Jennifer Rhatigan was another amazing MAE alum who made a difference on Day of Giving this year, making a generous gift to further opportunities for women in engineering by establishing a new NC State Engineering graduate fellowship. Dr. Rhatigan is a MAE Hall of Fame Inductee with a 40-year career in aerospace engineering marked by creative and unique contributions in the design, development and operations of complex aerospace systems.

Alongside thousands of other incredible donors, Dr. Hassan and Dr. Rhatigan made a huge difference for our students. Thank you to all who gave this year, because of you, we can continue to improve our department and provide the absolute best in mechanical and aerospace Engineering education and research.
