Zhu Named Distinguished Professor

Professor Yong Zhu

Professor Yong Zhu has been chosen by NC State to be the new Distinguished Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, a title bestowed on scholars who are considered to be at the top of their fields.

Zhu’s group conducts research at the intersection of mechanics of materials and micro/nano-technologies, including nanomechanics, interfacial mechanics, microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), and flexible, stretchable and wearable electronics. He has published over 100 journal papers with >9200 citations and H-index of 47 (according to Google Scholar). Zhu is also a Fellow of ASME and Senior Member of IEEE.

Professor Yong Zhu’s work has been recognized by numerous awards including ASME/Pi Tau Sigma Gustus L. Larson Memorial Award (2019), Eshelby Mechanics Award (2016), ASME Sia Nemat-Nasser Early Career Award (2015), Alcoa Foundation Engineering Research Achievement Award (2015), Best Wearable Material/Component Development Award at IDTechEx Wearable USA (2015), and Society of Experimental Mechanics Young Investigator Lecture Award (2013). He served as the Chair of the ASME Materials Division (2018-2019). Currently, he is an Associate Editor for Journal of Applied Mechanics and Experimental Mechanics (two major journals in his field), while serving on the editorial board of several other journals.
