MAE SEMINAR: Carbon Capture Technology Development in Saudi Arabia

October 22 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Speaker: Prof. William Roberts (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology)   Abstract: Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) will play a pivotal role in achieving the “net-zero” emissions goal of the sustainable energy future.  Last year, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted the G20 summit, highlighting the growing need for a Circular Carbon Economy approach, which calls for a fundamental shift from the traditional practice of single-use with disposal to the atmosphere of carbon in the fuel sources.  Cost-effective…

MAE Seminar: Scalable Manufacturing Approaches for Biomimetic Engineered Tissues

October 29 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Abstract:  Medical implants play an important role in improving the quality of life of patients affected by injuries and diseases. Whereas implants are traditionally made of bioinert metals and polymers, recent multi-disciplinary scientific and technological advances enable the engineering of living tissue constructs using functional biomaterials and cells. This talk will summarize our recent efforts in the manufacturing of such biomimetic engineered tissue constructs for orthopaedic applications. Scaffold-based and scaffold-free approaches including a new ultrasound-assisted 3D bioprinting process will be…
