Job opportunity for MAE students at SonoVascular

SonoVascular is hiring a new Research & Development Engineer and eligible MAE students are encouraged to apply. 

Reporting to the VP of Research & Development (R&D), the R&D Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing and testing novel catheter-based therapeutic intravascular ultrasound medical devices. The R&D Engineer will work closely with other engineers, medical advisors and vendors to design and implement in-vitro, ex-vivo, in-silico and in-vivo testing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop catheter-based system for a novel sonothrombolysis device
  • Conduct feasibility studies, verification/validation activities and data analysis
  • Construct prototypes and develop detailed specifications for the sonothrombolysis device
  • Conduct testing utilizing new and established test protocols and methods
  • Work independently and determine day-to-day tasks with the ability to self-manage workloads and prioritization.
  • Coordinate and support pilot production of new products
  • Procure materials and manage critical vendors as required
  • Contribute to the intellectual property position of the company via invention and patent applications
  • Operate strictly within company and regulatory policies and procedures, including Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and FDA and EU MDR regulations
  • Maintain a professional, credible image with key physicians, consultants, suppliers and co-workers

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 2+ years of product design and/or manufacturing in the medical device industry
  • Self-sufficient and task-driven work ethic
  • Excellent communication and presentation skillsets
  • Robust understanding of design controls
  • High attention to detail and an understanding of industry good documentation practices
  • Computer skills including SolidWorks, MS Office Suite and ideally MatLab or equivalent
  • Ability to create and understand engineering drawings, tolerancing and documentation
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and work as a team player
  • Strong design, modeling, and critical thinking skills
  • Fundamental understanding of electronics
  • Eagerness and willingness to learn
  • Willingness to wear many hats as part of a small, dynamic and exciting start-up company

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced understanding of microelectronics, physics of ultrasound and physics of micro and nano structures
  • Hands-on experience in piezoelectric device design and development
  • Hands-on experience in circuit design and impedance analysis
  • Hands-on experience in transducer manufacturing and test equipment
  • Medical device catheter experience, specifically intravascular catheters
  • Experience with fabrication, equipment, and assembly
  • Experience with design verification testing and test methods
