MAE Seeks New Faculty

Overview

North Carolina State University (NC State) invites applications and nominations
for two tenure‐track faculty positions in the Department of Mechanical and
Aerospace Engineering (MAE). Appointments will be made at the
Assistant/Associate Professor levels, though applicants with exceptional
qualifications may be considered for appointment at other ranks. Applicants are
expected to have a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace
Engineering, or other closely related fields.

The review process for applications will begin on December 22, 2017 and will continue until the
positions are filled. The expected start date for these positions is Fall 2018. Salary will be
competitive based on qualifications.

 

Position 1:
Applicants with expertise in robotics, autonomous systems, or related fields are strongly
encouraged to apply. Applicants should demonstrate interest and capabilities for developing
active, internationally‐visible, externally‐sponsored research programs related to robotics,
autonomous systems, or similar fields. Research expectations include a commitment to
innovative and significant work, the ability to work independently and pursue interdisciplinary
collaborations, both internally and externally to NC State. Teaching expectations include a
commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervision
of student research at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Apply

Position 2:
An emphasis on advanced manufacturing includes, but is not limited to: engineering design
principles and methods for advanced manufacturing; digital‐to‐physical conversion supported by
the incorporation of information, automation, sensing, and networking (cyber manufacturing);
characterizing the relationship between material, geometry and process to customize
performance; multi‐material manufacturing; numerical modeling and experimentation of
manufacturing processes; and improving the scalability and energy efficiency of advanced
manufacturing processes. Innovative areas of research within the broader scope of advanced
