MAE SCHOLARSHIPS
Astronaut Scholarship
To junior, senior or early graduate student in natural or applied sciences. Must be focused in their scientific objectives and possessed of intellectual daring. Renewable with satisfactory progress with official grade reports to be released to the Astronaut Foundation. Based primarily on the basis of merit, but financial need will be considered. US citizen. Nominated by a faculty member who knows the nominee personally and well. Statement of career objectives helpful. College of Engineering submits two nominees to the University Committee. Two nominations are then submitted from NC State University to the Foundation who make the final decision.

Robert and Elizabeth Carson Scholarship
To an undergraduate engineering student with demonstrated scholarship and leadership skills, and financial need. Renewable if recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress.
L. W. Cartwright
To a junior or senior in mechanical, electrical, or preferably aeronautical engineering. Must have been born or living in North Carolina.
Maurice and Sophie Clayton Scholarship
No restrictions or preferences as to race, color, sex or religion are in the scholarship criteria. Candidates must be citizens of the United States and residents of the State of North Carolina. Must have a minimum 3.2 grade point average, and must posses demonstrable leadership potential expressed through civic involvement, elected offices, athletics or professional activities. Candidates should also demonstrate their commitment to a career in mechanical or aerospace engineering upon graduation.
Jim Marchman Marching Band Scholarship - $1,000
Awarded to an undergraduate majoring in Aerospace Engineering. If there are no applicants from this discipline then preference will go to a student in Mechanical Engineering followed by a student enrolled in the College of Engineering. Recipient must have completed all required courses for the first year of study and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Recipient must be active in the marching band and a spring semester concert band (e.g., Wind Ensemble, British Brass Band) during the academic year that the scholarship is received. Awarded to a junior or senior in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Strong academic and leadership skills coupled with musical and athletic abilities. Awarded for one academic year and may be renewable. This scholarship should be used toward tuition and the COE computing fees only.
Jesse S. Doolittle Undergraduate Scholarship
To undergraduate students in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering with demonstrated need. Consideration shall also be given to participation and activity in AE and/or ME technical and honorary societies. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required; awarded to US citizens only.
Frances "Billie" Richardson Scholarship
Preference to a female junior or senior in the College of Engineering. Renewable one time if academic progress is maintained.
Katherine Stinson Scholarship
To a current female sophomore, junior, senior, or re-entering student in any engineering degree program who has outstanding academic qualities and a demonstrated financial need. May be renewed. (Application through form approved by the National Society of Women Engineers).
Louis S. Whatley Scholarship
Awarded to a student in any engineering curriculum. Must be a native of North Carolina with preference to a member of the NC State Rifle Team.

Students who have shown outstanding academic achievement or promise in chemical, industrial, materials, electrical and mechanical engineering.
Babcock and Wilcox Scholarship - (3) $1,000
Juniors and seniors in College of Engineering with a 3.0 average or better, U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Carolina Tractor and Equipment Company - (2) $1,000
To undergraduate students with demonstrated scholastic achievement in the Departments of Civil Engineering and/or Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Endowment pending.
L. W. Cartwright Memorial - (2) $600
(Number and amount vary according to income earned.) To a junior or senior in mechanical, electrical, or, preferably, aeronautical engineering. Must have been born in or living in North Carolina.
Caterpillar - (1) $1,000
To a student majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Must have a minimum 2.8 grade point average overall and in major.
Maurice and Sophie Clayton Scholarship - (1) $1,750

Candidates must be citizens of the United States and residents of the State of North Carolina. Candidates must have a minimum 3.2 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and must possess demonstrable leadership potential as expressed through civic involvement, elected offices, athletics or professional activities. Candidates should also demonstrate their commitment to a career in mechanical or aerospace engineering upon graduation. If this scholarship is awarded to a junior level student, the scholar may again be considered during his/her senior year.

Jane Liegh Furr Memorial Scholarship - (2) $600
(Number and amount vary based on income earned.) To an undergraduate student in nuclear engineering and/or mechanical engineering. Must be residents of North Carolina who are U.S. citizens.
Hoechst Celanese Corporation Scholarship for Women and Minorities - (7) $1,000
(Number and amount vary.) To undergraduate women and minorities in chemical engineering and mechanical engineering who have demonstrated academic achievement; must be U.S. citizen or permanent residents.
Jones Group Scholarships - (6) $1,000
(Number varies based on income earned.) To entering freshman in civil engineering and mechanical engineering degree programs; renewable if 2.5 GPA (4.0) is achieved. Students should have demonstrated academic promise and ability as shown by high school achievement; leadership qualities as expressed through civic involvement, elected offices, club activities or athletics; high moral character; motivated toward purposeful life goals; promise of future contributions to the improvement of the quality of life in their community, state or nation.
Richard Bennett Knight Scholarship - (1) $850
(Amount based on income earned.) To a senior in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering within one year of graduation. Selected on the basis of good scholarship and participation in extra-curricular activities. Recipient shall have demonstrated good scholarship through the junior year and shall have a grade point average in the top one-half of their class.
Procter and Gamble Minority Scholarship in Mechanical Engineering - (1) $3,000
Awarded to a minority student in mechanical engineering.
Raymond S. Talton - (1) $1,000
To an entering freshman pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. Selected on the basis of merit with a demonstrated need. Awarded only to residents of North Carolina with no discrimination as to sex, race, age or place of origin. Can be renewed if overall GPA of 3.0 (4.0) is maintained.
United Technologies Research Center (UTC) Undergraduate Scholarships - (7) $2,000
To upcoming juniors and seniors in the College of Engineering. To recognize and financially assist students for demonstrated academic and leadership performance.
L. L. Vaughn Scholarship - (5) $1,500
