Dr.
Fred DeJarnette
is a Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at NCSU.
His long career has included extensive involvement with NASA in
aerospace engineering and education. He worked at NASA Langley Research
Center from 1963-65 as an aerodynamics engineer while completing
his doctoral work at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
He started his academic career in Virginia Tech's Aerospace Engineering Department (1965-70) and then joined the faculty of NCSU, where
he is Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. During
his tenure at NCSU, Dr. DeJarnette has served as the Departmental
Graduate Administrator (1973-83), Associate Department Head (1980-83
and 1992), and Department Head (1993-99). He has served as Director
of the NASA Center of Excellence in Hypersonic Aerodynamics (1989-94),
Director of the NASA Mars Mission Research Center (1994-99), and
Coordinator of the International Masters in Aerospace Engineering
Sciences program (1997-present), and he has been Director of the
NCSGC since 1993.
