Student Internship

Internship Description
Ten-week internships will be awarded competitively to students at North Carolina Space Grant member universities for off-campus research at NASA Centers , Contractors, or Partners. Students will be selected based on the quality of the research proposed (50%), relevance to aerospace (25%) and academic achievement of the candidate (25%). Recipients will perform the ten-week internship in 2005 under the supervision of both a university mentor and a mentor where the off-campus research is performed. The awards are up to $5,000 for undergraduates and $6,700 for graduate students.* Students are responsible for their own travel and living arrangements. University advisors for undergraduate and graduate students will be provided with travel funds up to $800 to visit the graduate student during the off-campus internship. Up to five undergraduate and five graduate internships will be awarded for Summer 2005.
*Award amount subject to availability of funds. Stipends are taxable income.

Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must be full-time students pursuing degrees in engineering or science disciplines of interest to NASA at one of the eight member universities. Undergraduates are limited to students who will be Seniors in Fall 2005.
- Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 grade scale) or greater.
- Applicants must be United States citizens or permanent residents.
- Research projects should be space or aeronautics related.
- An agreement must be made with the off-campus organization on the name of the off-campus mentor, the research topic, and to accommodate the student on site for ten weeks.
