Basciano Wins Graduate Research Symposium Award
May 5, 2008
Congratulations to Chris Basciano, a winner in the Third Annual Graduate Research Symposium. The goal of the symposium is to showcase the outstanding quality and diversity of graduate-level research at NC State. Each Director of Graduate Programs was invited to nominate up to five graduate students from their department. Winners were announced from each of five categories (Engineering, Physical Sciences and Mathematics, Education, Design, Humanities, Social Sciences, and Management, and Life Sciences). The Symposium was held March 19th at the McKimmon Center.
Chris was awarded first place for his poster presentation “A New Patient-Specific Paradigm for Endovascular Aneurysm Repair.” His research involved the use of computational multiphysics simulations results, which will be used on a patient-by-patient basis for realistic laboratory testing as well as the assessment of biomarkers for possible aneurysm rupture and recommendations for improved stent-graft design.
According to Chris, his research interests have evolved while in graduate school: “My interests have begun to include experimental design in addition to pure computational research. I enjoy combining the tangible results from experiments with numerical simulations to provide a well-posed solution that is realistic and has an increased significant impact on the medical field.”
Dr. Clement Kleinstreuer, Chris's advisor, nominated Chris's research to be presented at the symposium.
Congratulations to Chris on this outstanding achievement!
