Graduate Students Present Research at MAE Poster Competition

This year, participation was excellent with 15 Ph.D. students and 5 M.S. students presenting their research in the MAE Graduate Student Poster Competition on Thursday April 27, 2006. Many faculty, students and staff attended the event and enjoyed learning about the diverse research being conducted in the MAE department. The crowd also enjoyed burgers provided by the student chapter of the ASME, which contributed heavily to the overall success of the event.

Five judges rated each poster for both presentation and technical content. Congratulations go to the following graduate students:

Ph.D. Students

Sharon Kiesel, 3rd Place
Advisor: Dr. K. Peters
Title: “Polymer Optical Fiber Sensors for Large Strain Applications”

Nancy Moore, 1st Place
Advisor: Dr. K. Lyons
Title: “Effects of Co-flow on Turbulent Lifted Flames near Blowout Conditions”

 

Brian Neville, 2nd Place
Advisor: Dr. A. Rabiei
Title: “Processing and Characterization of Composite Metal Foams Produced Using a Powder Metallurgy Technique”

 

M.S. Students

Travis Blalock, 2nd Place
Advisor: Dr. Afsaneh Rabiei
Title: “Effect of Substrate Temperature on the Micro-Structural and Mechanical Properties of Nano-Scale Calcium Phosphate Coating for Biomedical Implants”
Staphan Jernigan, 3rd Place
Advisor: Dr. G. Buckner
Title: “Finite Element Modelling of the Left Atrium to Facilitate the Design of an Endoscopic Atrial Retractor”
 

James Pearson, 1st Place
Advisor: Dr. M. Zikry
Title: “An Integrated Global-Local System for the Detection and Monitoring of Damage Progression in Heterogeneous Materials”
