The ASME Design Team took 2nd place at the regional conference at the University of Tennessee on April 1, 2006 . The Autocast 3000, built by Derek Gaines, Ben Hobgood, Nick Reese, and Noah Young, was a machine designed to aid quadriplegics who want to enjoy going fishing. The team completed three accurate casts of the fishing machine but due to a wire becoming unplugged just missed the time limit to reel in the simulated fish. The design, however, was one of the most talked about at the conference and one judge even commented “That's a beautiful machine!” A huge “thank you” from all the ASME officers goes out to the design team for their hard work and to all the members who traveled to the conference to support them.
