Eckerlin Receives N. C. Sustainable Energy Champion Award

Dr. Herbert M. Eckerlin, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering, has received the N.C. Sustainable Energy Champion Award from the State Energy Office for his outstanding contributions to sustainable energy initiatives in North Carolina. The award was presented during a conference banquet March 8.
Eckerlin helped found the N.C. Solar Center, one of the leading renewable energy centers in the United States, and the N. C. Solar House, a renewable energy demonstration home.
Eckerlin is also recognized for his role in establishing, organizing and operating theNC State University Industrial Assessment Center (IAC), which teaches industries how to use energy more efficiently. Anational authority on boiler and steam systems, Dr. Eckerlin and his students have visited 25 industrial plants each year to test equipment and make recommendations for improved efficiency and energy conservation.
