 DeJarnette Awarded Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal of Excellence

Dr. Fred DeJarnette was awarded the prestigious Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal of Excellence for 2004-2005. This award is named to commemorate the contributions to the university of Alexander Q. Holladay , who served as NC State's first Professor of History and first President. The Holladay Medal is given to recognize members of the faculty who have made outstanding contributions to the university. This is the highest award given by the university in recognition of faculty career achievements.
Dr. DeJarnette has served NC State in many important capacities including Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering department head from 1994 to 1999. In addition, Dr. DeJarnette served as the MAE Interim Head from 1993-1994, as the MAE Associate Head from 1981 to 1983, as the MAE Graduate Administrator from 1973 to 1983, and as the director of the Mars Mission Research Center from 1988 to 1994. Dr. DeJarnette is currently the director of the NASA Space Grant Consortium.
Dr. DeJarnette also has a distinguished record in research and in serving the professional community. This is reflected in his many prestigious awards including the Thermophysics Award given by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics in 1995. Dr. DeJarnette is a well-published scientist who has provided valuable contributions in the field of aerothermodynamics. Dr. DeJarnette has also had practical experience at various companies including Douglas Aircraft Company and the U.S. Army Ballistics Research Laboratory.
