MAE Mourns the Loss of Dr. Manoel Luiz Gonzalez

 The members and friends of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department mourn the loss of Dr. Manoel Luiz Gonzalez, 53, longtime resident of Raleigh, who passed away on September 1, 2005.
Dr. Gonzalez received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from NC State in 1993. Dr. Gonzalez was a member of the MAE faculty and the Director of Undergraduate Advising and Curricula. He was an active member of ASME (American Society for Mechanical Engineers), and ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineers).
Dr. Gonzalez is survived by his mother, Elka (nee Petersen) of Brazil; three daughters, Isabel V. of Brazil, Luisa V. and Gabriela V. of Oakley, OH; two brothers, Julio R. (Ina), J. Ricardo (Magda); and one sister, Angela Maria Gonzalez, all of Brazil. He was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church and music group in Cary, playing bass and guitar. Manoel was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Julio Gonzalez.
