Sigma Gamma Tau Focuses on Achievement and Excellence
By Aaron Cusher
Sigma Gamma Tau is a national Aerospace Engineering honor society that seeks to identify and recognize achievement and excellence in the aerospace field. At North Carolina State University, our chapter focuses on achievement and excellence through three main components: Academics, Service, and Social.
Academics – Student members of Sigma Gamma Tau are invited to join based on their academic standing in the AE department, and are expected to maintain a high level of academic achievement once they are inducted into the society. Student members consist of both undergraduate and graduate students, and are available to work with one another to promote high standards in the classroom.
Service – Sigma Gamma Tau supports giving back within the AE department as well as the community. Members of Sigma Gamma Tau offer their knowledge and experience by making themselves available for tutoring AE subjects, further promoting academic excellence. Sigma Gamma Tau also gives back to the community through rocket building at local elementary and middle schools. Through the rocket program, Sigma Gamma Tau is able to promote science and engineering fundamentals to young children in a fun atmosphere.
Social – Sigma Gamma Tau offers its members the opportunity to meet other excellent students in the AE department, and acts to bring together students at different stages of their degree. Camaraderie is gained through aerospace related activities, such as visiting air shows as a group or taking trips to related companies to gain exposure to the aerospace community.
As a member of Sigma Gamma Tau, you are not only congratulated for your achievement in Aerospace Engineering, but you are offered the opportunity to join a group of students who uphold the ideals of excellence, service, and community.
