Our group seeks Graduate
Research and/or Teaching Assistants for graduate studies starting in Fall 2008 in the area of micro/nano
mechanics and devices. Research activities
include: design, fabrication and
characterization of MEMS devices, nanomanipulation of 1D nanostructures, scanning and transmission electron microscopy
for
real time mechanical testing, and other small-scale experimental mechanics of advanced materials. Students with background
in one or more of the
following areas: solid mechanics, dynamics & controls, precision
engineering,
and materials science & engineering, are all encouraged to apply. Although the projects require excellent experimental
skills,
experience with analytical and numerical
simulations is a strong plus. Successful applicants must be
self-motivated and
be willing to learn multidisciplinary subjects. Ph.D. applicants are
preferred but M.S. applicants will be considered.
Why
this is a great opportunity:
- Great experience in a unique
multidisciplinary group that integrates MEMS and small-scale mechanics
- Interaction with
leading MEMS/Nanotechnology/Mechanics researchers at NCSU and other
institutions
- Challenging research projects with
opportunities to make a big impact
- First class working
environment and supporting facilities
- Located near the Research
Triangle Park (RTP) – the
largest research park in the world where
hundreds of high-tech companies are housed
- Raleigh
and surroundings is ranked one of the best areas to live in the US
- NC State University is ranked 22nd in Engineering worldwide
