GRADUATE STUDENT POSTER COMPETITION

Graduate Student Association
of the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department
is organizing the 2007-2008 poster competition
in two categories, MS and Ph.D. students.
The schedule will be :
| April 11 |

Deadline for electronic submission (to
the GSA, MAEGSA@gmail.com) of a two-page (maximum) extended abstract (pdf or MS Word) format describing the work. The two-page limit includes all supporting figures and references. Entries should include the student's name, faculty advisor(s), and e-mail address. In your submission, indicate one of the four research thrust areas ( Structural Mechanics and Materials , Aerodynamics, Fluid Mechanics, and Propulsion , Thermal Sciences and Energy Systems , and Dynamics, Vibrations, Acoustics and Controls). The abstract should be single-spaced, written in Times New Roman 12 pt font or equivalent, and must have 1 inch margins on all sides. |

Notification of extended abstracts selected for a poster presentation and distribution of ppt template slide.

| April 21 |
|
Students whose extended abstracts are accepted must electronically submit (MS Word format) a 100-200 word abstract with one figure for inclusion in a competition brochure. The MAE department will print the 30 x 40 poster and provide poster board with clips for mounting. The single power point slide poster must be submitted
for printing via email (20MB maximum) (MAEGSA@gmail.com) or on CD or flash drive to James Pearson in Broughton Hall 2219-A no later than 10:00 am Monday April 21. |

| April 23 |

Deadline for students to pick up poster and poster board from Judy Cline in the Graduate Office no later than 5:00 pm and request reprints due to printing errors. |

April 24
|

From 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM (dead week): Presentation of posters and final judging in the court yard out side Broughton Hall . Judging will be based on technical quality of the work, as evidenced by the poster presentation and extended abstract. Prize distribution will follow one of two formats depending, with each winner receiving $150. Prize distributions will be 1) by dividing contestants into MS and Ph.D. categories with a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner in each - or – 2) by dividing contestants into MS and Ph.D. categories with only a 1st and 2nd place with an additional two separate overall winners among both MS and Ph.D. for best poster (artwork) and best technical work/innovation (competitors can only win one prize).
Students should arrive early with their posters to be mounted. Poster board and the poster display stands will be available slightly before 11:00 AM, and it is the responsibility of the student to mount and position their poster in the competition area. Students are not required to stay at their poster at all times, however students should be present during judging to present their poster to each judge individually. At the end of the presentation period (1:00 PM), students are required to remove their poster and the provided poster board and may then take their posters and poster board home. |

* Note:
The MAE department will print the 30 x 40 poster and provide poster board with clips for mounting. It will be the student's responsibility to affix the printed poster onto the poster board. A blank ppt slide with the correct paper size will be made available electronically beginning April 14 to the entrants.
