Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
The Master
of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree program in the Department of
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at
Convenience and flexibility
are key advantages of this program. The MSME degree, which can be earned totally through the Engineering Online program, is a 30 credit hour
degree program that does not require the GRE, a thesis, a final oral exam, or
on-campus attendance.
· Flexibility (time and place)
· No need for campus attendance
· Earn an engineering graduate degree from
a well established and recognized university
· Enhance your career opportunities
· Achieve new competencies,
broaden your expertise and expand your knowledge
Requirements for the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree
include completion of 30 credit hours of graduate level courses at the 500 or
700 level with an overall grade-point average of 3.0.
Each student in the MSME Distance Education
program must complete a minimum of four (4) core MAE
courses from a concentration area and two additional MAE courses at the 500 or
700 level. In addition, each student must complete three credits of MAE 586 –
Project Work in Mechanical Engineering. The remaining three courses may consist
of any graduate level engineering, mathematics or statistics course offered
through Engineering Online.
MSME Distance
Education students are permitted to take
and attend courses on campus. However,
approval must be obtained from the Director of Graduate Program prior to
registering. Under no circumstances can
more than three courses taken on-campus be applied to satisfy the off-campus
students’ degree requirements.
All requirements for the degree must be
completed within six years of enrolling in the first course appearing on the
NCSU graduate transcript. For additional information please call Ms. Judy Cline at (919) 515-3026 or e-mail her at: judy_cline@ncsu.edu. For
general information, please visit the Department of
Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Graduate program web page at:

Since 1978, the North
Carolina State University College of Engineering has been offering a graduate
Distance Education program in an effort to help engineers and science
professionals stay current and productive in their fields without the
constraints of on-campus attendance. The Engineering
Online program delivers regular classroom courses that are recorded in
specially equipped studios and made available to off-campus students via CD-ROM
and the Internet.
The Engineering
Online Program at NC State University is designed for working
professionals. Credit courses in
Engineering and Computer Science can be delivered directly to your home or
workplace via CD-ROMs or the Internet. Special undergraduate programs are also
offered at various locations throughout
If you would like additional
information or would like to talk to someone about these programs, contact the Engineering Online office at 1-877-254-0058 between
the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
