Course Description

Student will acquire fundamental understanding of the principles of advanced strength of materials and elasticity theory together with increased confidence in solving practical engineering problems concerned with stress and deformation analysis. Attention will be focused on two-dimensional elastic problems including; advanced beam theory, contact mechanics, stress concentration, axisymmetric disks, thermal stress analysis, and stresses in layered microelectronic devices. The course serves prepares the student to attack future courses in finite element analysis, fracture mechanics, composites, and plasticity.
